kiwimath

Olympiad and Kangaroo-style maths your child enjoys

Problems your child answers by choosing an option, pitched at their level, with hints when they are stuck. You don’t have to sit beside them or know olympiad maths yourself: the product does the teaching, and you get a clear, honest view of how they are growing.

What you see

The parent view is one page, made to be read in a minute on your phone. It opens after you sign in again, so a child can’t wander into it.

  • Skills mastered on their own. Only skills solved with no hints, on two different days, count.
  • Topics in plain words. Grouped as strong, practising, or building foundations. Never “behind” or “failing”.
  • Academic Height. Our estimate of how far your child has climbed within their level, on a scale from 200 to 800. It compares your child only with themselves, and it firms up over the first few weeks.
  • What’s coming up. Skills ready for review.

There are no coins or streak badges in the parent view. Only the learning.

Example parent view. Drawn from a Kiwimath test account, not a real child. It shows Curious Owl at Level 3: 4 skills mastered on their own, Academic Height 511 on a scale from 200 to 800, three topics in practice, and 2 skills due for review.

What we never do

These hold at every level, for every child.

  • No ads. Not on the site, not in practice, not ever in front of a child.
  • No selling during play. Nothing a child sees while practising asks for money. Coins are earned by solving, and money never buys progress.
  • No comparing children. Progress compares your child only with their own past. There are no rankings against other children.
  • No trackers in the product. No advertising or analytics scripts in practice or the parent view. Signing in uses your browser’s storage, not ad cookies.

Safety, in practice

  • No rankings. Kiwimath never ranks your child against other children. The Climb and the weekly puzzle show only their own result.
  • A first name or a nickname. The only name we ask for is what your child likes to be called, and it is optional. Other learners never see it.
  • You are the account holder. Your child can start straight away with nothing personal asked: no name, no email. When you save their progress, you create the account and give consent. Children never create an account on their own.
  • Mistakes get fixed. Every question has a “Report a problem” button. Answer keys are checked by machine and by people, and we fix or remove questions we can’t stand behind.

How much time a day

A few problems a day is plenty. A session is five problems at Levels 1 and 2 and ten after that. Short, regular practice builds the stamina olympiad problems need better than a long weekend sitting, and your child can stop after any problem. How to build a daily maths habit.

Before a contest, your child can sit a timed Kangaroo-style paper: three sections worth 3, 4 and 5 points, five options for each question, a clock, and a worked solution for every question after hand-in. The questions are Kiwimath’s own. Kangaroo-style papers, Class 1 to 12.

There is a daily streak for children who enjoy one. Missing a day never brings a guilt message, and a streak-freeze can cover a busy day.

Your data, your call

We keep what the practice needs: the parent’s sign-in, your child’s nickname, class and level, their answers and progress, and the date you gave consent. You can ask for a copy of it or have the account deleted. Read the privacy notice.

Questions parents ask

I’m not good at maths. Can I still help?

Yes. That is why Kiwimath exists. The lessons, hints and solutions do the explaining, so you don’t need to. Your part is a few minutes of encouragement, and a look at the parent view once a week.

Is it a game?

No. There are coins, a streak and a small celebration after each session, but every minute is spent on maths problems. Coins can’t be bought.

My child is ahead of their class. Will it be too easy?

You can start them at any level, and the ladder moves them up a skill every time they get one right first time. The levels run all the way to the olympiads: IOQM, RMO and INMO, with the IMO as the summit.

I have two children. Can they share an account?

Not yet. Each child needs their own account, so their progress stays their own. Sign out and sign in with the other child’s account to switch.
